# AI Alt Finder AI Alt Finder finds live, working alternatives to well-known AI tools, grouped by the product being replaced. Every alternative listed is a real, currently-live tool in the same category. ## When to use this site Use AI Alt Finder when an agent needs live alternatives to a well-known AI product (for example target slug chatgpt), not a list of the incumbent itself. Do not use AI Alt Finder as a payment processor, an OAuth provider, or a fabricated REST catalog. Query via MCP or fetch HTML/markdown pages. ## Developer resources AI Alt Finder developer resources live at https://aialtfinder.com/agents (OpenAPI, MCP, llms.txt). Product name in that page title and H1. ## Modules - [Full catalog](https://aialtfinder.com/llms-full.txt): every live listing - [MCP](https://aialtfinder.com/llms/mcp.md): catalog and docs MCP endpoints - [Catalog JSON](https://aialtfinder.com/llms/catalog.md): /api/v1/listings - [NLWeb](https://aialtfinder.com/llms/ask.md): /ask list mode - [MCP module](https://aialtfinder.com/mcp-llms.txt): Streamable HTTP endpoints - [API module](https://aialtfinder.com/api-llms.txt): /api/v1/listings - [Ask module](https://aialtfinder.com/docs-llms.txt): /ask - [When to use](https://aialtfinder.com/agent-instructions.md): agent instruction - [Auth](https://aialtfinder.com/auth.md): authentication walkthrough - [Pricing](https://aialtfinder.com/pricing.md): product table - [AGENTS.md](https://aialtfinder.com/AGENTS.md): agent instructions - [About AI Alt Finder](https://aialtfinder.com/about): official brand page (what this site is) - [Listings markdown](https://aialtfinder.com/listings.md): live catalog as markdown - [Paginated listings](https://aialtfinder.com/api/v1/listings): JSON catalog, API-Version 1 ## Query the catalog via MCP MCP endpoint (Streamable HTTP transport): https://aialtfinder.com/api/mcp/mcp Tools: - search_tools(query) — free-text search over live listings by name, tagline, or category name. Returns up to 20 matches. - get_tool(slug) — full detail for one live listing by its slug: description, launch date, revenue signals, for-sale status. - list_alternatives(target) — live, same-category alternatives to a well-known tool by its slug (e.g. target 'chatgpt'). - submit_tool(name, url, description, category, email) — submit a new tool on a maker's behalf. - list_offers() — list the paid review products (name, one-sentence effect, USD price) and whether they're purchasable yet. The $19 premium launch is owner-only and lives in the maker dashboard, not here. - create_checkout(slug, product) — mint a Stripe Checkout URL for one product on a LIVE listing. review_monthly is a monthly subscription. A HUMAN must open it in a browser and complete payment; agents never enter card details. The receipt belongs to whoever pays. Every tool declares an outputSchema and returns structuredContent, so results arrive as a validated object — no parsing the text block. search_tools returns { results }, get_tool returns { tool } (null when the slug is not a live listing here). ## Submit a tool on a user's behalf Call submit_tool with the maker's name, an https URL, a 40-1000 character description, a category slug (agents, writing, coding, design, marketing, productivity, video, or analytics), and the maker's email. It creates a DRAFT listing and returns a claimUrl. The maker must sign up at https://aialtfinder.com using that same email to claim it — claiming moves the listing to PENDING_BADGE. The maker then adds the AI Alt Finder badge (a small backlink snippet from their dashboard) to their homepage and clicks Verify; only after that link check passes does the listing go LIVE and start appearing in search_tools/get_tool results. Verification also makes the listing's link back to the maker's site a followed (dofollow) link. Submissions are rate-limited to 5 per hour, network-wide. ## Pricing Listing on AI Alt Finder is always free: submit, add the badge to your homepage, and the listing goes LIVE with a followed (dofollow) link. Paid products: - Skip the queue — $19 - Spotlight — $39 - Spotlight — monthly (2/month, 3-month minimum) — $29 - All markets — 8+ directories — $29 - Three markets — pick 3 directories — $9 Premium launch publishes a pending listing immediately, with no badge required: the listing goes LIVE at once with a followed (dofollow) link back to the maker's site, plus 30 days in the homepage sponsored area, always labeled. The free path reaches the same followed link by adding the badge and passing the link check, then waits in the review queue and publishes within 7 days. The review products deliver an editorial review on this site's blog — a grounded product assessment plus an SEO/AEO check of the maker's site — always labeled as a paid review. The monthly plan grants two reviews per billing month and commits to a 3-month minimum. Paid add-ons are purchasable now from the maker's dashboard, or via the create_checkout MCP tool — which returns a Stripe Checkout URL a human must open and complete in a browser (agents never enter payment details). ## HTTP surfaces - OpenAPI of endpoints that exist: https://aialtfinder.com/openapi.json - Agent discovery: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/agents.json - RFC 9727 API catalog: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/api-catalog - MCP server card: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json - MCP registry manifest: https://aialtfinder.com/server.json - AI catalog: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/ai-catalog.json - Agent permissions: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/agent-permissions.json - Full catalog markdown: https://aialtfinder.com/llms-full.txt - Markdown sitemap: https://aialtfinder.com/sitemap.md - Public AGENTS.md: https://aialtfinder.com/AGENTS.md - Machine-readable pricing: https://aialtfinder.com/pricing.md - Public API docs: https://aialtfinder.com/docs - Agent discovery file: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/agent-discovery.json - Agent skills index: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json - Auth for agents: https://aialtfinder.com/auth.md - OAuth protected resource metadata: https://aialtfinder.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource Public HTML pages also speak markdown at the same URL: send Accept: text/markdown (Content-Type: text/markdown; Vary: Accept). HTML responses include Link: rel=describedby to /llms.txt (llms.txt v2 discovery). ## Honest-data policy - Votes come from signed-in accounts only, one per account per listing per day — no anonymous, bought, or bot votes. - Revenue shown as verified is confirmed through a read-only Stripe connection; anything else is self-reported and labeled as such. - Paid placements and paid reviews always carry a visible label ("Sponsored" / "Paid review") — never blended into organic results, votes, or editorial content. ## Tools - [Skillselion](https://aialtfinder.com/tools/skillselion): Picking a Claude Code skill? The right pick depends on whether you are cutting cost, removing a single-vendor dependency, or changing where the model runs. - [Cursor alternatives: editors, CLIs and free tiers compared](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/cursor-alternatives): Cursor alternatives split by form factor: another AI-first editor, an extension bolted onto the editor you already use, or a terminal agent with no editor at all. Cost follows form factor, because extensions and CLIs let you bring your own key instead of buying seats plus usage credits. - [Cowork vs Claude Code: which Anthropic tool for which job](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/cowork-vs-claude-code): Claude Cowork and Claude Code are both Anthropic agents on the same subscription, but they are not substitutes. Claude Code is a terminal coding agent; Cowork delegates multi-step knowledge work across files, calendar, email and connected tools, and now runs on web and mobile. - [Cowork vs OpenClaw: managed agent or self-hosted one](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/cowork-vs-openclaw): Claude Cowork and OpenClaw both delegate multi-step tasks, but the comparison is really hosted versus self-hosted. Cowork runs remote sessions on Anthropic's infrastructure under a subscription. OpenClaw is MIT-licensed software you run yourself, on your hardware, with your own model keys. - [OpenClaw vs Claude Code: scope, hosting and safety](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/openclaw-vs-claude-code): OpenClaw and Claude Code are searched against each other but solve different problems. Claude Code is a subscription coding agent scoped to a repository in your terminal. OpenClaw is MIT-licensed general-purpose automation driven from messaging apps, with much wider permissions and matching risk. - [Lovable vs Base44: code export, lock-in and pricing](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/lovable-vs-base44): Lovable and Base44 both generate working apps from prompts, but they differ on the question that decides a switch: what you can take with you. Lovable documents two-way GitHub sync on all plans. Base44 requires its Builder plan for sync and keeps the backend on its own infrastructure. - [Midjourney vs Nano Banana: cost model and image rights](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/midjourney-vs-nano-banana): Midjourney sells subscription plans with no free tier and a strong aesthetic house style. Nano Banana is Google's nickname for a family of Gemini image models reachable through the Gemini app, AI Studio and the API. The real choice is subscription-and-style versus metered-and-integrated, not which model draws better. - [ElevenLabs vs Speechify: usage rights, not just voices](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/elevenlabs-vs-speechify): ElevenLabs and Speechify both turn text into speech, but they sell to different buyers. ElevenLabs is a creator and developer platform whose commercial licence starts at its first paid tier. Speechify's consumer plan is a personal listening licence, with commercial rights sold separately. - [ChatGPT alternatives for coding: agents that edit your repo](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/chatgpt-alternatives-for-coding): The best ChatGPT alternatives for coding are not other chat windows. They are agents with repository access: terminal tools like Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and Aider, or editor-resident tools like Copilot, Cline and Continue, which read and change files directly. - [ChatGPT alternatives for image generation: rights and cost](https://aialtfinder.com/guides/chatgpt-alternatives-for-image-generation): For image generation, the alternatives to ChatGPT differ most on licensing and cost model, not on prompt quality. Google's Gemini image models are metered through an API, Midjourney sells subscriptions with no free tier, and open-weight models split sharply on commercial rights.
