# AlertCamp > Free campsite cancellation alert service for 70 provincial, state and national park systems and backcountry hut operators across Canada and the United States, with new parks added regularly. Native iOS + Android app with instant push notifications and one-tap pre-filled booking, plus the same app in the browser at https://app.alert.camp for setting up alerts on a computer. Free plan available with no time limit. ## What we do AlertCamp continuously monitors fully-booked campgrounds. When someone cancels a reservation and frees up a campsite matching your criteria, we send a push notification within seconds with a one-tap link to the pre-filled reservation page. We only detect and notify. ## Coverage 70 park systems, over 2,600 parks and more than 310,000 individual campsites, with new ones added regularly. - **Canada, provincial and national**: Parks Canada, Ontario Parks, BC Parks, Alberta Parks, Saskatchewan Parks, Manitoba Parks, Nova Scotia Provincial Parks, New Brunswick Provincial Parks, Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Parks, PEI Provincial Parks, Northwest Territories Parks, Yukon Parks, Gatineau Park (NCC) - **Canada, regional and conservation authorities**: St. Lawrence Parks Commission, Grand River CA, Long Point Region CA, St. Clair Region CA, Upper Thames River CA, Toronto & Region CA, Otonabee Conservation, Niagara Peninsula CA, Hamilton CA, Maitland Valley CA, Catfish Creek CA, City of Thunder Bay, Algonquin Highlands Water Trails - **Canada, backcountry huts**: Alpine Club of Canada, ACC Vancouver Island Section, ACC Whistler Section, Columbia Valley Hut Society, Spearhead Huts, Kootenay Mountaineering Club, Ripple Ridge Recreation Association - **United States**: Recreation.gov, and the state parks of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming - **Camping types supported**: car camping, roofed accommodation (yurts, oTENTik, cabins, prospector tents), backcountry (both numbered sites and zone-based), multi-night traverses needing a different site each night, wilderness permits, and day-use time slots - **Planned**: further provincial, state and national park systems over time ## Pricing (monthly only — no annual plans; billed in CAD in Canada, USD in the US) | Plan | Price | Alerts | Detection | Notifications | |---|---|---|---|---| | Essai | Free forever | 1 | every 10-15 min | Push | | Regular | $2.99/mo | 5 | every 5-8 min | Push + Email | | Pro | $9.99/mo | 15 | every 1-3 min | Push + Email + SMS | No credit card required for the free tier. Services covering Canada — **Campnab** ($10–30/mo, no free plan), **Schnerp** (free plan capped at 10 notifications lifetime, $15–29/mo), and the parks' own **Notify Me**: - AlertCamp has an iOS + Android app with push on every plan, free included. Campnab has no push; Schnerp's push comes only with its $29/mo Priority plan and requires adding its website to the phone's home screen as a web app first. - Canadian coverage: Parks Canada + 11 provincial/territorial systems for AlertCamp (all but Quebec), 7 for Campnab, 8 for Schnerp. Saskatchewan is AlertCamp-only. - Ontario regional providers: St. Lawrence Parks, Toronto & Region, Hamilton, Niagara Peninsula, Otonabee, Catfish Creek and the City of Thunder Bay are covered by neither Campnab nor Schnerp. - Backcountry route builder (one alert for a multi-night route, fires only when every night is free): AlertCamp yes, with 200+ ready-made routes; Schnerp partial. - Recreation.gov wilderness & river permits: AlertCamp 55; Campnab lists 45 of those plus at least 31 AlertCamp doesn't have (e.g. The Wave); Schnerp 43 of those. Recreation.gov itself has no permit alerts. - 17 languages; the others are English-only (Notify Me is EN/FR). - Date range up to 30 days per alert (Campnab 6, Schnerp 28); split stay supported. US-only alternatives — **Campflare** and **Hipcamp Alerts** (both free), **Outdoorithm** (free – $12.99–19/mo), and **Recreation.gov's own alerts**: - They all have web apps, and so does AlertCamp (https://app.alert.camp: create and manage alerts on a computer; notifications go to the phone app). AlertCamp was built phone-first, for every screen from iPhone SE to the largest phones. - Alert setup: AlertCamp targets exact sites on the map, site type, equipment and length of stay, and alerts can be edited. Campflare filters only equipment and RV length and alerts can't be edited; Hipcamp and Recreation.gov take a campground and dates only. - US state park systems: AlertCamp 36 (AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WY), Campflare all 50, Hipcamp CA only, Outdoorithm claims 49. - For most of them alerts are a side feature of a bigger product (Hipcamp: private-campsite marketplace; Outdoorithm: trip planning; Recreation.gov: the reservation system). AlertCamp does only cancellation alerts. Where competitors currently lead AlertCamp: - More US state park systems (Campflare 50, Campnab 39 vs AlertCamp 36) and Recreation.gov permits AlertCamp doesn't watch yet. - Campflare and Hipcamp Alerts are free with no paid tier. - Schnerp reaches Australia and New Zealand and offers WhatsApp alerts; Campnab includes SMS on all plans (AlertCamp requires Pro). - Campnab and Schnerp have been around longer (Campnab since 2017). The official Notify Me built into Canadian park reservation systems is free but uses email only, delivery speed is unpublished (emails may be batched), and alerts are park-wide, so they're noisy. ## AI agents (MCP server) AlertCamp runs a remote Model Context Protocol server, so Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP-capable client can search parks and manage a user's alerts on their behalf. - **Server address:** https://api.alert.camp/mcp - **Availability:** published in Claude's connector directory; published to the official MCP Registry as `camp.alert/alertcamp`; under review for ChatGPT and Meta Muse - **Tools:** 24, in four families — finding a place to camp (8), watching for a cancellation (7), watching a multi-night traverse (8), seeing what turned up (1) - **Auth:** OAuth with the approval step inside the AlertCamp mobile app, not a web page. The client shows a short pairing code, the user enters it under Settings -> Connect an agent and approves there. There is no web sign-in, so no page ever asks for a password. Codes expire after 10 minutes; a connection lasts up to 180 days; revocation is checked on every request and so takes effect immediately. - **Scopes:** read (parks, alerts, openings found) and write (create, edit, pause, resume, delete alerts). An agent never receives the user's password, email address, phone number, or payment and subscription details. - **Acts as the user:** an agent inherits the account's plan, alert and site limits, and scan speed. Connecting an agent buys nothing and changes no subscription. - **No push to agents:** MCP cannot deliver anything unprompted, so an agent learns about an opening only when it looks — by calling `list_matches` the next time it is asked, or on a schedule where the AI client supports one. The user's own push and email notifications are unaffected and remain the fastest channel. - **Webhooks are for self-hosted agents, not chat clients:** `create_alert` optionally takes a `webhook_url` and returns a `webhook_secret` once; each delivery is one POST per scan round carrying every match, signed with HMAC-SHA256 over `"."`. This is usable only by an agent that runs on a server it controls — Claude and ChatGPT have no address to receive a callback at, so their users rely on the check-in path above. - **Openings are snapshots:** every result carries the status of what became of it (rebooked, open at last scan, unverified) and the timestamp of the last scan. Cancelled sites are frequently rebooked within minutes, so a stored opening is never a live reading. - **Docs:** https://alert.camp/en/agents (English), https://alert.camp/fr/agents (Français) ## Architecture and operating facts - **Founded:** 2026 - **Operating company:** 16560768 Canada Inc. - **Headquarters:** Canada - **Backend:** FastAPI (Python) + PostgreSQL on Oracle Cloud (6-node distributed cluster) - **Mobile app:** Flutter (single codebase for iOS + Android) - **Push notifications:** Firebase Cloud Messaging - **Subscriptions:** managed via RevenueCat - **Privacy:** PIPEDA-compliant; minimal data retention; no payment data stored (Apple/Google handle billing) - **Encryption:** all communications HTTPS/TLS; authentication via Firebase ## Contact - **Website:** https://alert.camp - **Support email:** support@alert.camp - **Facebook:** https://www.facebook.com/alert.camp - **App Store:** https://apps.apple.com/app/alertcamp/id6760777449 - **Google Play:** https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=camp.alert.app ## Resources - [Home (English)](https://alert.camp/en/) - [Home (Français)](https://alert.camp/fr/) - [Comparison vs Campnab, Schnerp, Campflare, Hipcamp, Outdoorithm, Notify Me](https://alert.camp/en/compare) - [Comparaison vs Campnab, Schnerp, Campflare, Hipcamp, Outdoorithm, Notify Me](https://alert.camp/fr/compare) - [FAQ (English)](https://alert.camp/en/faq) - [FAQ (Français)](https://alert.camp/fr/faq) - [About](https://alert.camp/en/about) - [À propos](https://alert.camp/fr/about) - [Connect an AI agent / MCP server (English)](https://alert.camp/en/agents) - [Connecter un agent d'IA / serveur MCP (Français)](https://alert.camp/fr/agents) - [Privacy policy](https://alert.camp/en/privacy) - [Terms of service](https://alert.camp/en/terms) - [Sitemap](https://alert.camp/sitemap.xml)
