# BeYourCover > AI book cover generator for self-published authors and publishers. Generates genre-aware, print-ready (Amazon KDP compliant) ebook covers, full paperback/hardcover wrap covers, and audiobook covers. Sold as one-time credit packs for authors and monthly API plans for publishers/agencies. Key facts for agents: - Cover generation is available programmatically via a REST API (Bearer API key, async job model with polling and signed webhooks). - Full print wrap covers (back + spine + front) are available through the same API: `POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/wraps` generates back-cover artwork, typesets the back-cover copy you supply, and returns a composited flat plus a KDP-ready PDF. Amazon KDP trim sizes, 1 credit, whatever the back style, with the back-cover text set in any of the wrap editor's fonts (`fontFamily`); re-typesetting an existing wrap is free, and so is re-running the front-panel AI extension (`POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/wraps/{wrapId}/extend-front`) after a poor result. `GET https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/wraps` lists the account's wraps, including Amazon KDP and Barnes & Noble designs made in the browser editor, which re-render through the same endpoints. - A finished cover the customer already owns can be imported through the API (`POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/covers/import`, MCP `import_cover`), as the browser's External Cover Studio does: upload it with `POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/uploads` and `purpose: "cover_import"`, then import it into a new or existing book with `rights_confirmed: true`. Free for a 5:8 cover; 1 credit when an AI outpaint must extend it to 5:8 (refunded if the outpaint fails). The imported cover then takes the wrap, audiobook, text-removal, upscale and export endpoints like any generated cover. - Enterprise plans (the API and agency plans) start at $79/month (Starter tier: 150 credits, 5 marketing kits and 1 seat). API keys are created in the account dashboard after subscribing. - API plans give monthly credits for the REST API and the MCP server only — no web app access (the browser generator and editor use the account's own Pro or credit packs), no marketing kits, extra seats, review links or white label: API 150 ($49/month, 150 credits), API 500 ($99/month, 500 credits), API 1,500 ($199/month, 1,500 credits). Overage credits cost the same as on the workspace plan of the same size. Plans, credit costs and the difference from a workspace plan: https://beyourcover.com/book-cover-generator-api. An API plan is bought there, in the browser — agents should hand that link to a human. - Author credit packs ($19 and $39) are purchased through the browser at https://beyourcover.com/checkout — agents should hand that link to a human. - Pro authors can add a one-time Book Launch Kit ($30, one book, bought once). It runs on the marketing kit engine: from one finished cover and the author's launch notes it makes 23 on-brand image assets and 4 copy documents (social ads and stories, launch moments, email and web banners, Amazon A+ modules, AI mockups; listing kit, ads kit, social copy, launch calendar), with the dates, tagline, quotes and calls to action on the images (the price and buy link go into the copy documents) and a brand kit for the book, a series or all the author's books. The first run is included, then 35 regenerations once, then 1 credit per image; one print wrap, one audiobook cover and one text-free cover are included once. For the author's own books and pen names: client review links, clients, seats, white label, the asset composer, the API/MCP and monthly credits are Enterprise only. Browser-only purchase at https://beyourcover.com/launch-kit — agents should hand that link to a human. - The Book Launch Kit is not part of the API/designer plans (Starter, Growth, Scale, API 150, API 500, API 1,500): they use the marketing kit below instead, and the add-on cannot be bought on them. - The API/designer plans also include an agency workspace: clients that hold books and series (clients and filing books under them also work through the REST API and the MCP server; the rest is in the browser only), a brand kit per client, series or book, and marketing kits, counted monthly (each marketing kit is one book's full kit for the month) — 23 on-brand image assets and 4 copy documents (social and Meta ads, stories, launch moments, email and web banners, Amazon A+ modules, mockups, listing, ads, social and calendar copy), regenerated per asset or built by hand in an asset composer, exported as a zip foldered by channel (per book, or every kit of one client at once, emailed as a download link). Clients approve assets through a review link without an account (white label on Scale). Plans include 5, 15 or 35 marketing kits a month and 1, 3 or 8 seats, next to the credits that pay for covers, wraps, edits and the API; an extra marketing kit for a single book is bought from its kit page in the browser, and the workspace owner buys extra team seats (billed monthly with the plan) from the Enterprise dashboard. Details: https://beyourcover.com/for-publishers and https://beyourcover.com/docs/agency-workspace.md - A book opened in the marketing kit includes one print wrap, one audiobook cover and one text-free cover a month, and the REST API and the MCP server honour them: the book's first wrap, audiobook cover and text-free cover cost 0 credits, and the job's 202 says `included_format: true` with `credits_reserved: 0`. ## Markdown for agents Every public page on this site is available as Markdown at its own URL. Send `Accept: text/markdown` and you get the page content as clean Markdown with YAML frontmatter (title, description, canonical url) instead of HTML — no scraping, no layout to strip. Browsers are unaffected: HTML remains the default, and a wildcard `Accept` never triggers Markdown. ``` curl -H "Accept: text/markdown" https://beyourcover.com/blog/amazon-book-cover-dimensions ``` - Responses carry `Content-Type: text/markdown; charset=utf-8`, `Vary: Accept`, and `x-markdown-tokens` (an estimate, so you can budget context before reading the body). - Covered: the home page, product/marketing pages, all blog articles and listings, the product guides, the free tools, the genre pages, and the premade cover marketplace. - Not covered: signed-in app surfaces (dashboards, generator, checkout) and the legal pages, which stay HTML-only. - The user guides additionally keep their permanent `.md` URLs (`https://beyourcover.com/docs/.md`), and the API reference keeps `https://beyourcover.com/api-docs.md`. Those need no Accept header. ## API - [API catalog](https://beyourcover.com/.well-known/api-catalog): RFC 9727 linkset indexing every API on this site (REST + MCP) with its spec, docs and health endpoint — start here for automated discovery - [auth.md](https://beyourcover.com/auth.md): how an agent obtains and uses a credential — the two registration methods, which endpoints accept which credential, and the scopes to request. Read this before attempting to authenticate - [OpenAPI 3.1 specification](https://beyourcover.com/openapi.json): machine-readable contract for all 30 /api/v1 endpoints - [API reference (markdown)](https://beyourcover.com/api-docs.md): endpoints, auth, job model, error codes - [API reference (HTML)](https://beyourcover.com/api-docs): human-readable API documentation - [Webhooks](https://beyourcover.com/api-docs#webhooks): job-completion webhooks — payloads, retries, and HMAC-SHA256 signature verification - [Health](https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/health): unauthenticated liveness probe (the only endpoint that needs no API key) - [Book cover generator API](https://beyourcover.com/book-cover-generator-api): the API-only plans, what a credit buys, and how they differ from the workspace plans - [Enterprise plans](https://beyourcover.com/for-publishers): pricing and tiers — marketing kits, seats, credits, the REST API and the MCP server ## MCP server (for AI agents) - Endpoint: https://beyourcover.com/api/mcp — remote MCP server, Streamable HTTP transport only (POST JSON-RPC; no SSE endpoint). https://beyourcover.com/api/mcp/mcp is a permanent alias serving the same server, kept for connectors configured before the shorter path became canonical - Protocol: the stateless 2026-07-28 spec is served natively; 2025-era Streamable HTTP clients are still supported from the same endpoint, so no client change is required - Documentation: https://beyourcover.com/mcp — connection snippets per client, every tool with its credit cost, the async job model and print wraps - Manifest: https://beyourcover.com/server.json — the MCP registry manifest (name, version, remote endpoint), also linked as `service-desc` from the API catalog - Auth: two methods — (1) Bearer API key (`Authorization: Bearer byc_sk_...`), same as the REST API; or (2) OAuth 2.1 for native connectors (Claude Desktop, claude.ai), discovered via https://beyourcover.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource; the authorization server's RFC 8414 metadata is also mirrored at https://beyourcover.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server. Full walkthrough of both at https://beyourcover.com/auth.md. Note that a valid OAuth token still needs an account with an active API plan behind it - Tools (credit cost in brackets): generate_covers (1 per image), generate_cover_from_reference (1), get_generation_status (free), list_books (free), list_covers_for_book (free), update_book (free), set_cover_visibility (free), download_cover (free), export_cover (free), edit_cover (1 per image; upscale free; 0 with a marketing kit for text-free and audiobook), replace_person_on_cover (1 for two versions), upload_reference_image (free), import_cover (0 for a 5:8 cover, 1 when it must be extended), list_templates_for_genre (free), get_credit_balance (free), list_clients (free), create_client (free), create_full_wrap (1 for any back style, or 0 with a marketing kit), get_wrap (free), update_wrap_text (free), extend_wrap_front (free), calculate_kdp_wrap (free) - Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http beyourcover https://beyourcover.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer byc_sk_..."` - Generation is async (job model): create returns a jobId, poll get_generation_status; covers are delivered as 1-hour signed URLs - Generation controls (MCP generate_covers, and POST /api/v1/covers/generate): prompt_mode "verbatim" renders your own prompt as written (up to 6000 characters; "note", the default, merges it into a template). REST only: variant_overrides picks a pinned template's style options (the variants GET /api/v1/templates returns); motif_id picks the story motif from GET /api/v1/books/{bookId}/motifs - Who designs the covers: with no template control (template_id, variant_overrides, motif_id, prompt_mode "verbatim"), the app's art director designs them; with one, the template engine renders them. Same price. There is no engine field - Directions: directions (1-5) on POST /api/v1/covers/generate, or on the MCP tool generate_covers, has the app's art director design one cover per named direction, rendered in parallel, 1 credit each - Finished covers are also returned as inline MCP image content by get_generation_status and download_cover, so clients render the artwork; pass include_images/include_image false for URL-only responses. Print-resolution assets (full, audiobook_full, no_text_full) are always URL-only - Replace person (REST `POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/covers/{coverId}/replace-person`, MCP replace_person_on_cover): the caller confirms on every call, with `person_consent: true`, that it is the person in the photo or has that person's permission. Calls without it are refused before any charge; each confirmation is stored with the API key or member and the workspace - Team workspaces: an OAuth session acts as the signed-in member with their role (a reviewer reads only), an API key acts as the workspace owner. Both read every member's books, covers and wraps; a new book belongs to the member who made it; jobs record the acting member (`actor_user_id`). Agency clients: REST `GET`/`POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/clients` and `PUT https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/books/{bookId}/client`, MCP list_clients, create_client and update_book (client_id) - Advanced export (REST `POST https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/covers/{coverId}/exports`, MCP export_cover, free): a JPG or PNG at an exact `width_px` or a print size `{ width_in, height_in, dpi }`, in the cover's 5:8 or `shape: "2:3"` (widened at both sides, never cropped), DPI written into the file, returned as a 1-hour signed link with a file name. The first export of a cover builds a ~3200 px master with the AI upscaler; later exports reuse it - Genre coverage and per-operation credit costs: `GET https://beyourcover.com/api/v1/capabilities` (authenticated) ## Product guides ### Start here - [Getting started](https://beyourcover.com/docs/getting-started.md): Learn the Dashboard, book projects, cover workspace, plans, and credits. - [Create covers for a new book](https://beyourcover.com/docs/create-new-book.md): Enter your book details, choose an input method, and generate your first concepts. - [Continue an existing book](https://beyourcover.com/docs/continue-existing-book.md): Generate more covers with the Create and Chat tabs of the Cover Expert, references, and saved inputs. - [Series covers](https://beyourcover.com/docs/series-covers.md): Turn a finished cover into a series: matching next-book covers with a consistent look and characters. ### Work with covers - [Organize and review covers](https://beyourcover.com/docs/organize-covers.md): Preview, favorite, hide, filter, and review the covers in a book project. - [Edit and improve a cover](https://beyourcover.com/docs/edit-covers.md): Edit text, restyle typography, transform artwork, convert styles, and use Cover Expert chat. - [Export and repurpose covers](https://beyourcover.com/docs/export-covers.md): Download eBook, text-free, audiobook, marketing, and batch outputs. ### Print and external covers - [Create a full wrap cover](https://beyourcover.com/docs/full-wrap-covers.md): Build and export a paperback or hardcover front, spine, back, and bleed layout. - [Use the External Cover Studio](https://beyourcover.com/docs/external-cover-studio.md): Upload an existing cover and create new formats without generating a new front cover. - [Buy a premade cover](https://beyourcover.com/docs/premade-covers.md): Pick a one-of-a-kind premade cover, put your own title on it, and download it KDP-ready. - [Create marketing resources](https://beyourcover.com/docs/marketing-resources.md): Generate ads, social mockups, and promotional video assets from a cover. - [Book Launch Kit](https://beyourcover.com/docs/launch-kit.md): Turn one cover into a full launch: mockups, A+ banners, ads and social copy, your Amazon listing, and a day-by-day plan. ### Account and help - [Marketing kit](https://beyourcover.com/docs/marketing-kit.md): Turn a client's cover into a campaign: brand kit, one-click kit, hand-made assets, export by channel, and client review. - [Agency client workspaces](https://beyourcover.com/docs/agency-workspace.md): Group your books by client: create a client, add a logo, file books under it, and filter your shelf. - [Account, plans, credits, and teams](https://beyourcover.com/docs/account-plans-teams.md): Understand access levels, credit balances, billing, team roles, and enterprise controls. - [Free tools, gallery, and support](https://beyourcover.com/docs/free-tools-gallery.md): Use publishing tools, browse cover inspiration, and contact support. - [Troubleshooting and publishing checklist](https://beyourcover.com/docs/troubleshooting-publishing.md): Resolve common issues and review every file before publishing. ## Other - [Home](https://beyourcover.com/): product overview - [Pricing](https://beyourcover.com/#pricing): author credit packs - [Book Launch Kit](https://beyourcover.com/launch-kit): one-time Pro add-on that turns a finished cover into one book's launch kit: channel-sized images, listing, ads and social copy, and a launch calendar - [External Cover Studio](https://beyourcover.com/external-cover-studio): upload a cover you already own and generate its print wrap, audiobook cover, text-free version and marketing images — no cover generation required - [Cover gallery](https://beyourcover.com/gallery): example covers by genre - [Free tools](https://beyourcover.com/free-tools): free utilities for authors - [Blog](https://beyourcover.com/blog): articles on cover design and self-publishing
