# ConvertFileFast

> Fast file-conversion service for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, images, PDFs, and data. Convert 50+ format pairs (e.g. DOCX→PDF, PDF→CSV, PDF→JPG, HTML→PDF, URL→PDF), plus PDF tools (merge, split, compress, rotate, protect, unlock) and image tools (resize, compress). Two surfaces: a **native MCP server for AI agents** (recommended for LLM/agent integrations) and a REST API for classical HTTP integrations. Conversion is server-side: send an uploaded file OR a public URL and receive the converted file back.

## For AI agents — MCP (recommended)

ConvertFileFast is designed to be called by AI agents through the Model Context Protocol. Use the MCP surface first; the REST API below is the same feature set exposed for non-agent integrations.

- **No human available?** An autonomous agent can `POST https://www.convertfilefast.com/api/agent/provision` (no auth) to get a `cff_` key with 0 credits, then `POST https://www.convertfilefast.com/api/agent/credits` with `X-API-Key` and `{"pack_id": "pack_1000"}` to get a checkout link for prepaid credits.

- `convert_file` — one call, 50+ conversions. Args: `{ target_format, source_url | source_file }`.

Remote MCP file results return short-lived download URLs from `https://mcp.convertfilefast.com/download/...` — no binary payloads in agent context windows. Local stdio results return local file paths. Billing tools return Stripe-hosted `checkout_url` / `portal_url` links, never card data — hand the URL to the human account owner to complete payment; an agent cannot complete checkout on its own.

### Typical agent use cases

- Converting user-uploaded documents to a canonical format (e.g. DOCX/RTF/ODT → PDF for archival).
- Extracting structured data from PDFs into CSV/XLSX/JSON for downstream reasoning.
- Rendering webpages (URL→PDF) or HTML strings into PDF for report generation.
- Preparing images for a downstream vision step (resize/compress) or bundling scans into a PDF.

## REST API — for direct HTTP integrations

Use this surface if your integration is not an MCP-capable agent (e.g. a webhook, a serverless function, an n8n/Zapier flow).

- Base URL: `https://api.convertfilefast.com`
- Auth: send your API key as header `X-API-Key: <key>` or `Authorization: Bearer <key>`. Keys start with `cff_`.
- Method: every conversion endpoint is `POST`.
- Input (`multipart/form-data`): either
  - `file` — the uploaded source file, or
  - `url` — a publicly reachable URL to the source file (preferred for agents; no binary handling).
- Output: the converted file is streamed back as the response body (binary) with a `Content-Disposition` filename. Errors return JSON.
- Limits: responses include `X-RateLimit-Limit`, `X-RateLimit-Remaining`, `X-Monthly-Limit`, `X-Monthly-Used`. A `429` means rate or monthly limit reached.
