# Snap > Snap is a hosted screenshot API and visual regression platform for small teams: capture public web pages, run visual checks in CI, store baselines, and review visual diffs. Snap has two product surfaces: - The Screenshot API captures publicly reachable HTTP/HTTPS pages as images. Call the anonymous `GET /v1/screenshot` endpoint from your own code for up to 30 screenshots per day per IP with no signup; it also has a high shared per-network daily attempt ceiling. Cache hits do not consume the daily capture quota but remain rate-limited. Anonymous minute and daily limit responses use HTTP 429 with an image body, `Retry-After`, and distinct rate/quota scope headers; other capture failures remain HTTP 200 image placeholders. Public image responses support `` for credential-free canvas/JavaScript pixel access; authenticated visual and dashboard routes remain same-origin. The authenticated `POST /v1/screenshots` endpoint returns JSON and supports API keys, render controls, request headers, and cookies. The same endpoint accepts a batch of up to 50 URLs when the body carries an `items` array, with shared options at the top level and per-item overrides; a batch is always asynchronous, returns a `batchId`, and is polled at `GET /v1/screenshots/{batchId}` for per-item results. Batch and async submission depend on a deployment switch that is off by default. - Snap Visual Regression is the hosted visual-regression workflow. Connect the open-source `snapdrift` client to Snap for hosted baselines, Lambda-rendered captures, pull-request results, and a review dashboard. Important current boundaries: - Snap currently renders with Chromium and blocks private, loopback, link-local, and otherwise unsafe targets. - The Screenshot API captures PDF URLs as images of the first page in Chromium's built-in viewer, for viewport captures only. Full-page capture is not supported for PDF targets, because that viewer is a fixed size; request those with full-page off. Hosted Visual CI always captures full-page, so PDF routes are not supported there. - Request-level headers and cookies are supported for keyed captures. Scripted login, MFA automation, CAPTCHA solving, and reusable stored login profiles are not supported. - `snapdrift` local mode is free and open source. The hosted `provider: "snap"` integration (≥ v0.17.0) is available through GitHub Actions and requires a Snap account and API key; version-1 comparisons report unequal dimensions with a generated diff instead of stopping at a dimension mismatch. - API keys are created in the signed-in dashboard and shown in full only once, when they are created; Snap cannot show a key again. A lost key is replaced by creating a new key and revoking the old one. ## Product - [Snap home](https://snap.i2dev.com/): Overview of Snap Visual Regression, centralized baselines, hosted preview rendering, and review workflows. - [Visual Diff tool](https://snap.i2dev.com/visual-diff): Free in-browser visual diff tool to upload two images, compare pixel-by-pixel changes, and inspect regressions with side-by-side, split slider, and diff highlight modes. - [Screenshot API](https://snap.i2dev.com/screenshot-api): Free public-URL screenshot capture, examples, and a no-signup interactive builder for viewport, format, quality, full-page, and wait options whose page URL updates to match, so the address bar shares any configuration. - [Snap Visual Regression setup](https://snap.i2dev.com/ci): Local SnapDrift and hosted Snap setup, pull-request workflow, provider capabilities, and migration guidance. - [Visual regression pricing comparison](https://snap.i2dev.com/compare/visual-regression-pricing): Small-team comparison of Snap, Percy, Chromatic, and Argos plan boundaries, last rechecked 2026-08-16. ## Documentation - [Getting started](https://snap.i2dev.com/docs): Anonymous and authenticated capture quickstarts, options, authentication, and error handling. - [HTTP API reference](https://snap.i2dev.com/docs/api): Request and response formats for the authenticated Screenshot API, result URLs, errors, and limits. - [MCP server](https://snap.i2dev.com/docs/mcp): Remote MCP endpoint at `https://snap.i2dev.com/mcp` (Streamable HTTP, 2026-07-28 and 2025 protocols) with `take_screenshot` and `get_quota` tools; free anonymous daily allowance, or `Authorization: Bearer` API key for the organisation's monthly allowance. ## Plans - [Pricing](https://snap.i2dev.com/pricing): Current Anonymous Free, Freemium, Starter, Pro, and Enterprise offers. ## Open source - [SnapDrift](https://snap.i2dev.com/snapdrift): Free, MIT-licensed visual regression testing runner for GitHub Actions — baselines on the default branch, pull-request diff reports, route scoping, and four enforcement modes. - [snapdrift on GitHub](https://github.com/ranacseruet/snapdrift): Free open-source local capture and visual-regression client, including the hosted Snap provider integration.
