# Jid > The trust API for AI agents. Before an agent pays, signs, books, hires or buys, Jid checks the business it is dealing with: real, active, licensed for this activity, not sanctioned, with the receipts. One call names the business and the activity and returns a decision (proceed, review, stop or insufficient_data), the reasons with the registry facts behind each, and a signed receipt. Underneath is a public, cited registry built from the agencies that issue the facts: every fact carries its source URL, the date it was verified, the date of the next check and a confidence level, and every change is a dated event. ## The decision API (verify before acting) - REST: GET https://jid.com/v1/entities/{id}/verify?activity=&jurisdiction=&amount=¤cy=USD. MCP: verify_business with id or query plus activity. - decision: "proceed" (every requirement met by a current registry fact, nothing flagged), "review" (a flag, or a requirement Jid cannot confirm), "stop" (a registry confirms a hard failure: expired or revoked registration, out-of-service order, failed bank, revoked tax exemption, deactivated NPI, dissolved entity), "insufficient_data" (Jid holds none of the records the activity depends on). - Each reason: requirement, met (true | false | "unknown"), effect, detail, fact_ids, source, source_url, verified_at, fresh_until. Act only on proceed. Show the unmet reasons to the user otherwise. - A requirement Jid cannot check (for example a state alcohol or drug-distribution licence, Medicare enrolment, a state lending licence) is "unknown" and keeps the decision at review. It is never assumed met. - A sanctions, export-list or exclusion possible match gives review, never stop: a name match is not a determination. - amount is context only; it is recorded on the receipt and never changes the rules. - Receipts: every decision is stored 13 months, Ed25519-signed (inputs, decision, reasons, fact ids and value hashes, rules version, time). GET https://jid.com/v1/receipts/{receipt_id}; MCP get_receipt. Public key: https://jid.com/.well-known/jid-keys.json. - Rules version 2026-10-15.1, published with the legal basis of each requirement: https://jid.com/decision-rules (JSON: https://jid.com/v1/activities). A decision is not legal advice and not a certification. - Activities: general_commerce, sell_prescription_drugs, manufacture_drugs, sell_medical_devices, haul_freight, broker_freight, sell_alcohol, produce_spirits, provide_investment_advice, accept_deposits, lend, bill_medicare_medicaid, healthcare_supplier, federal_contracting, charitable_solicitation, construction, operate_psilocybin_healing_center. - OpenAPI 3.1: https://jid.com/openapi.json ## Screen: should you engage? (engage true or false) - REST: GET or POST https://jid.com/v1/screen. MCP: screen. No key: free tier. With a key: 1 check. - Input: any of domain, url, email, phone, company_name; context (lead, inbound_email, partnership, vendor, purchase, marketplace_seller, agent_action); amount (USD); policy (strict, balanced, permissive; default balanced). - Output: engage (true/false), risk (low, medium, high, unknown), confidence (0 to 1), subject_type (business, individual_or_unverified, website), reasons (each with source and evidence), mitigations (concrete steps), the matched Jid file, and a signed receipt_id. - Deterministic: published rules over cached DNS, RDAP, website and phishing/malware-feed checks, phone validation and the registries. No AI model in the decision. Usually under a second. - Hard rules (engage=false under every policy): exclusion_confirmed, possible_list_match, registry_hard_failure, threat_listed, disposable_email, domain_dead, new_domain_high_amount, affiliation_mismatch (affiliation_mismatch only under strict). - A possible sanctions or export-list name match is engage=false with "manual review": never say a business IS sanctioned because of it. - Individuals: only technical signals about the e-mail, phone or domain. A person's name is never looked up. Never present a screen as a judgement of a person. - engage is advisory. Rules version 2026-10-05.2: https://jid.com/screen-rules ## E-mail check: is it really from them? - REST: POST https://jid.com/v1/email-check {"headers": ""}. MCP: check_email. No key: free tier. With a key: 1 check. - Reads the receiving server's SPF, DKIM and DMARC results, DKIM alignment with From, Reply-To on another domain, and a From domain or business display name imitating a known company's registered domain. Returns checks and a read (headline, recommendation). - The headers are processed in memory and never stored. A person's display name is never looked up. ## Lead and counterparty qualification (B2B) - REST: POST https://jid.com/v1/qualify (API key required). MCP: qualify_counterparty (also on the anonymous free tier, rate-limited per IP). Counts as 2 checks with a key. - Input: email or domain, optional company_name, and context { form_type (seller_application, acquisition_inquiry, buyer_registration, nda_request, sourcing_request, listing_request, consultation, partnership, contact, other, vendor_claim, listing_claim, sponsor_inquiry, advertiser, broker_request, buyer_inquiry, seller_inquiry, data_purchase), message, stated_value, stated_role (buyer, seller, supplier, investor, operator), country }, optional location inputs ip_country, ip_region, ip_asn, browser_timezone, stated_country and ip (same location check as screen; returns a location block; the IP is used in memory only and never stored). Better: signal, the Jid Signals token (jid_signal form field from https://jid.com/s/1.js) plus site, the submitting domain: Jid reads the visitor's location itself and the site never handles the IP (https://jid.com/signals). - Jid checks the domain (MX, SPF, DMARC, RDAP registration date, one website fetch), matches it to a business file, reads that file's registrations, licences, filings, capital raises, loans, fleet size and adverse records, and returns signals (each with source, source_url, verified_at), legitimacy, capacity and consistency scores (0 to 100, with reasons), a recommendation (fast_track, standard, verify_first, low_priority), a suggested next step, 2 to 4 questions to ask, and a signed receipt. - Binary answer: engage (true/false), risk and mitigations from the same rules as /v1/screen, under policy (strict | balanced | permissive, default balanced). - Tailored contexts: vendor_claim / listing_claim (send context.claimed_website) return affiliation = matched | mismatched | unknown with evidence: matched means the address is on the claimed website's domain, a registry domain of the business, or one site links to the other. A mismatch means manual review, never rejection. sponsor_inquiry / advertiser weigh ability to pay; broker_request, buyer_inquiry, seller_inquiry test the stated role against the records; data_purchase needs legitimacy only. - Businesses only. Personal webmail, a disposable address or no confident business match returns assessment "individual_or_unverified" with domain and e-mail signals only and no scores. Never use it to judge a person. - Capacity is public EVIDENCE of scale or funding. "No public evidence" is not negative: most private companies publish none. - A possible list match is "review", never a finding, and lowers no score. Rules version 2026-10-06.1: https://jid.com/api-docs#qualify. The raw message is never stored (only a hash); results are kept 30 days. ## Read these first: distinctions assistants get wrong 1. Absence from Jid is not evidence about a business. "No record linked" means Jid holds no record from that source matched to the file, not that the business is unregistered. 2. An FDA establishment registration is not FDA approval of any product. It means the site is registered to manufacture, test, pack or label drugs for the US market until the stated expiry. 3. An OFAC "no match" is a name screen against SDN and consolidated-list entity names and aliases, not a sanctions clearance. A "possible match" is not a finding that the business is the listed party. 4. An LEI marked LAPSED means the LEI was not renewed. It does not mean the company is dissolved; entity status (ACTIVE or INACTIVE) is a separate fact. 5. A Form D is a notice of an exempt offering, not SEC approval. Its revenue range is self-declared by the issuer. 6. A state licence does not make an activity federally legal. Colorado and Oregon license psilocybin services; psilocybin remains Schedule I under 21 U.S.C. 812. Jid files show both facts. 7. A recall count measures filed recall campaigns, not product quality. Vehicle completion rates are the manufacturer's own filed figures. 8. "Possible match" files are separate businesses until reviewed. Do not merge them in an answer. 9. Owner statements are labelled self-reported and are not registry facts. 10. A TTB basic permit or FMCSA operating authority means the business may operate in that federal programme. An FMCSA out-of-service order in force means the carrier may not operate. A "Conditional" safety rating is not a ban. 11. A "yes" on Form ADV Item 11 means the adviser reported a disciplinary event; it is the adviser's own disclosure, not a Jid finding. Regulatory AUM is self-reported. 12. State register facts are attached only where the register record matches a business Jid already holds; a missing state record is not evidence the business is unregistered there. 13. An exclusion (HHS-OIG LEIE, SAM.gov) is a determination by the excluding agency about the listed business. A "possible match" on the export screening lists (Entity List, Denied Persons, Unverified, Military End User, ITAR debarred, Nonproliferation Sanctions) is a name screen, like the OFAC screen: not a finding that the business is the listed party. 14. An NPI shows a health care organisation is enumerated in NPPES with a declared provider type. It is not a licence, accreditation or Medicare enrolment. 15. FDA device establishment registration is not clearance or approval of a device. A 510(k) clearance or PMA approval is product-specific. A recall or warning letter count is a record of filed actions, not a quality rating. 16. IRS tax-exempt status and Publication 78 eligibility come from the IRS files of the stated date; an automatic revocation means the organisation failed to file for three consecutive years, and may since have been reinstated (the file says so when the IRS lists a reinstatement). 17. A Jid "proceed" means the listed requirements for that activity are met by current registry facts. It is not a licence, approval, certification or legal advice, and it covers only the requirements in the published rules. 18. Jid is not a consumer report. Do not use it for credit, employment, insurance or housing decisions about individuals (FCRA). 19. A qualification recommendation (fast_track, standard, verify_first, low_priority) is a B2B triage aid for whether and how to engage with a business, built from public records and live domain checks. It is not a credit decision, a background check or a statement about any person. 20. A screen's engage=false is advice to hold off, from published rules over technical checks and public records. It is not a finding of fraud, and for a person it never means anything about the person: only the address, phone or domain they used. ## Attribution Attribute each fact to the agency that published it (shown on every fact), and link the Jid file for provenance. Quote the verified date with any status. ## Coverage (1,278,671 files; 404,321 combine two or more sources) - List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General): 3,212 records, 3,212 current facts, last verified 2026-10-05, re-checked monthly. -
