# Medifontis

> Medifontis is a REST API over the official medicine registers of 199 countries: 6,698,002 records from 258 national regulators, ministries and agencies. Search medicines by name, active ingredient or national code; every record keeps its source URL, retrieval time, licence and limitations. Medifontis reports what sources publish and does not decide whether a medicine is suitable for a patient.

- Base URL: https://api.medifontis.com/v1
- Authentication: `Authorization: Bearer mf_live_…` or `X-Api-Key: mf_live_…` (never both). Keys are created instantly at https://www.medifontis.com/us/en/signup/.
- Rate limit: 300 requests per minute per key. 429 and 503 answers carry Retry-After.

## Endpoints

- `GET /v1/drugs`: Search medicines. Searches every record of every source in one country by name, active ingredient or identifier. Names match anywhere in the text; identifiers such as AIC, CN, NDC or DIN codes match from their first character. Matching ignores accents and case. Results rank exact matches first, then prefix matches, then other matches, each by record name. Parameters: `country` (required), `q` (required), `limit`, `offset`, `kinds`, `useDomain`, `species`.
- `GET /v1/drugs/suggestions`: Suggest medicine names. Returns distinct names from every source for typeahead. Exact names sort first, then names starting with the query, then other matches, shorter names first. Debounce requests and ignore stale responses when the query changes. Parameters: `country` (required), `q` (required), `limit`, `useDomain`, `species`.
- `GET /v1/drugs/record`: Retrieve a record. Reads exactly one current record by its country, source and native identity, for example to refresh a record your application saved earlier. Answers 404 when the source no longer publishes it. Parameters: `country` (required), `sourceId` (required), `id` (required).
