# Things To Do API

> Fast, accurate, localized events API for agentic applications: shows, concerts, pop-ups, markets, parties and more, searched in plain words over REST or MCP. Covers the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda and nearby). New York City and Los Angeles are coming soon.

## If your user sent you here: set them up

1. Try it now. No key is needed for 50 calls a day:
   GET https://api.thingstodoapi.com/v1/search?q=comedy+in+san+francisco+this+weekend
2. If you are an MCP client, add the server:
   - Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http thingstodo https://api.thingstodoapi.com/mcp
   - Claude Desktop, Cursor and other clients: { "mcpServers": { "thingstodo": { "url": "https://api.thingstodoapi.com/mcp" } } }
   Tools: search_events (plain words; time, place and who it is for are understood), get_event, list_coverage.
   Otherwise, call the REST API: GET https://api.thingstodoapi.com/v1/search?q=<plain words>.
3. For more than 50 calls a day, your user needs a free key (1,000 calls a month). Ask them to make one at https://thingstodoapi.com/signup/ and paste it to you. Send it as Authorization: Bearer <key>, or use https://api.thingstodoapi.com/mcp/<key> as the MCP server URL.
4. Tell your user what you set up, and that https://thingstodoapi.com/console/ shows their usage and keys, and is where they add a card to go past 1,000 calls a month.

## Using it

- Ask in plain words: "jazz in Oakland tonight", "night markets this weekend", "free things to do in San Francisco tomorrow". Say who it is for in the same words ("comedy this weekend for my parents, they hate crowds"); what suits them comes first. Or pass from, to, place, lat/lng/km, category, limit and offset.
- Each event has a title, category, start and end (UTC and local), venue with address and coordinates, summary, tags, price, and ticket and source links.
- More results: pass the next_offset a search returns as offset.
- A place outside coverage returns no events and a message saying what is covered.
- Over a limit is a 429 with Retry-After; error is rate_limited (per minute) or quota_exceeded (per month, or per day without a key), and the message says what to do.

## Pricing

The first 1,000 calls a month are free (60 a minute). Then pay as you go: $5 per 1,000 calls, $3 per 1,000 past 100,000 a month, $2 past 1 million, with an optional monthly spend cap (300 a minute, 1,200 after the first paid invoice). Enterprise by arrangement. Without a key: 50 calls a day, 10 a minute.
